This firebase was home to the 173rd Airborne Brigade (Separate). Nicknamed "Sky Soldiers", they were arguably the best light infantry in the world. They operated from LZ English and other firebases in the area of the Bong Son plains and their missions took them deep into the moutains which framed the An Loa valley, and the 506 valley. They carried rucksacks which weighed 65 pounds and climbed these mountains day after day. LZ English
We went to English on a sporadic basis. Most times it was to refuel when we were low on diesel fuel and too far from LZ Uplift. Other times it was to buy beer and soda at the 173rd beverage point.
