Chu Pong Mountain

Located at YA 884-018 in Pleiku province, II Corps. The highest peak in the Chu Pong Massif. The forward slope of this hill (northeastern slope) would become the site of the NVA Field Front Headquarters during much of the 1st Cavalry Division's Ia Drang campaign. Although bombed heavily by B-52s, the deeply dug bunlers were probably impervious to the effect of the 500lb and 1,000lb bombs dropped.
