Located at YD 137-647 in Quang Tri province, I Corps. This was one of the combat base areas constructed to support the Strong Point Obstacle System (SPOS) which was the name given to the former concept known as the McNamara Line. The theory was that troops stationed at these bases would be rushed to intercept NVA infiltrating through the DMZ. In theory the NVA would be detected by a series of acoustic, seismic, and infrared sensors embedded in the cleared traces along the southern edge of the DMZ. In reality these forces were tied down when the Marines would have preferred to be out looking for the NVA. Combat Base C-2
