Camp Evans

Located at YD 541-318 along Route 601 in Thua Thien Province. Several units occupied this location starting with the U.S. Marines, followed by the U.S. Army's 1st Cavalry Division HQs in 1968 (moving from Camp Radliff near An Khe), and finally by the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division from 1968 through 1972. On 19 May 1968 (Ho Chi Minh's birthday) an enemy mortar attack set off the base ammo dump resulting in explosions which destroyed some two hundred helicopters.
